Geomagnetic Storm 2024 Tracker. The increased geomagnetic activity was in response to the arrival of a coronal mass ejection (cme) that departed the sun on june 25th. Noaa’s space weather prediction center (swpc) — a division of the national weather service — is monitoring the sun following a series coronal mass ejections (cmes) that began on august 11.

The most recent g4 (severe) storm occurred on march 23, 2024, while the halloween storms in october 2003 marked the last g5 (extreme) event. A geomagnetic storm is a major disturbance of earth’s magnetosphere that occurs when there is a very efficient exchange of energy from the solar wind into the space environment surrounding earth.
